Quran Competition in NJ Attracts Hundreds

Hundreds of anxious young Muslims turned out at the Baytul-Iman Academy Annual Qur’aan Qiraat Competition on Saturday, Rabiul Awwal 12, 1431 H (February 27, 2010) at its Old Bridge location.  With both excitement and nurveousness, participants from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Maryland took to the mic one after the other, all day, carfully reciting versus from the Quran.

“The response was so overwhelming that the registration had to be closed early,” said Yasir Shahid, the organizer of the competition. The enthusiasm of the students and parents was everywhere in the packed classrooms and halls.

While the top winners got Laptops, Wii Games and iPods, everyone was a winner for demonstrating their love for reading and applying the Book of Allaah SWT in their individual and collective lives. The participants competed in four levels based on their age. Professional Expert Judges from New York evaluated the recitations using a points system based on Makharij, Tajweed, and Tone.

“The performance of the students was truly outstanding Masha’Allaah! It was amazing to see even some very young students reciting like pros Alhamdulillah, giving strong hope for the future of the Muslim Ummah in our country,” commented Salmad Shaikh, Director of the Bayt-Iman Academy

The keynote Speaker was Sheikh Hassan Abu Nar, the World Class Qari from Connecticut who spoke about the importance of inculcating the love and application for the words of Allaah SWT and following of the teachings of His Beloved Messenger Prophet Muhammad SAW who was sent to this world in the month of Rabiul Awwal by Allaah SWT as a Mercy to all. He illustrated the importance of Maamalaat or good behavior in our dealings from the Seerah of Rasullullaah SAW.

Old Bridge Mayor Jim Phillips was a special guest and was awarded a Plaque and Books for his Services to the community at large and his support for Quality education. Many of the students had a good time questioning the Mayor on a variety of topics. The program was webcast live by WEBCARE Solutions which was seen by an audience around the world Masha’Allaah, in addition to being seen in five big Halls in the school connected by closed circuit wide Screen TV Panels.

The event served to reinforce one of the main goals of Baytul-Iman Academy (www.baytuliman.org Est. 2001): to strives to promote the integration of the “sacred” and “secular” knowledge in an attempt to regain the over thousand years of glory of  Muslim Civilization which contributed greatly to the modern Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Medicine, Astronomy, Geometry, Trigonometry, Arts, Literature, Management, Publication etc.,

Baytul Iman Academy students excel both in “Deen” and “Duniya” and Alhamdulillaah theTahfeez students have also gone on to obtain 99 percentile in Terra Nova Standardized tests, win Science Olympiads, Johns Hopkins University Talent Search, ICNA Islamic Quiz, Poetry competition etc. and one Hafiz student has recently gained admission to the prestigious Academy of Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences Masha’Allaah.

Baytul-Iman Academy offers an intensive Arabic language program to help better understand the words of Allaah SWT and the message of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a next step towards implementing the teachings in our individual and collective lives and becoming beneficial to ourselves, our families, our neighbors, our country and the world at large, Insha’Allaah.
