Time magazine’s August 9 edition features a photo of an Afghani girl with her nose cut off, purportedly at the order of a local Taliban commander as a punishment for running away from her abusive in-laws. The photograph is a hauntingly horrific reminder of some of the most extreme abuses suffered by Muslim women at the hands of Muslim men.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — As a Muslim growing up in East Brunswick, Atiya Aftab missed classes and had to make up school work to be with her family on two important holidays: Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice.
